How far away is the exit in terms of junctions? If it's more than ~8 junctions (stalls next to the path included) it won't find the path and simply go as close as it can get, hoping for a short enough path to show up when it gets there. (I know I'm talking about mechanics as if they're robots) It could also indicate that there's another issue with the path to the exit. Check whether it's properly connected. A save and/or screenshot would greatly help. (note to self: check whether height is considered during pathfinding, it is ignored when picking the nearest entrance of a ride)

As I said, annoying but I don't think of them as "bugs".

This particular instance there are no junctions for several tiles. In this case I don't think a screenshot or save would help show the problem, as this particular ride is underground and immediately under a path. The ride is fully accessible as peeps can entre and exit without a problem. It's something I've never noticed happen before.

I appreciate the suggestions and the response, if I linked the park it may take a while for the problem to crop up, but I certainly can share the park. It's an observation tower named "Out of Darkness", under the mountain.  :)

Just did a really quick comparison as an example of above and partly below ground. Doesn't really highlight what I was meaning though.

  2. One of the most annoying messages I receive "Guests are getting lost or stuck". I primarily get it once a park starts getting more and more rides, but mostly if I have a park size (not map size) greater than 200x200. I assume this is because guests take more than X time to find what they're looking for. Even with transport rides to most parts of the park. Yes, I know the guest ai doesn't really distinguish between transport and everything else, so they don't use them as the class implies.

Something else I have gotten more recently is the message that X ride still hasn't been fixed. I noticed that the particular mechanic heading to it just kept going over and over the same few tiles, which happen to be vertically above the ride exit, while the path to the exit was a couple of tiles from where he was.

And lastly, the frustrating (apparent) penalty to intensity for having all or parts of a track underground. Yes, yes, yes, in the real world this might be disorienting for some, but when a game doesn't really penalise for a positive G that not even the toughest astronaut or fighter pilot could handle, underground is an unusual thing to be penalised on.  :)

Just a few things for others to consider. I'd be interested if others have noticed any of these in there times in the game.  :)

And as always .... Keep any responses polite please.  :)

  3. If Rollercoaster Tycoon (in whatever form) was an accurate "simulator" then any stats would only be estimations (which they are). And any true ratings would be relying totally on guest's opinions. And I suspect that type of guest AI would be a lot more complex than it is currently. I honestly don't understand how you can say stats aren't "realistic", end of the day, this is only a GAME, not a true design program. It's a fairly simplistic construction simulator too. All isometric, with limited track pieces, and limited styles.

All this can change with the plethora of plug-ins and add-ons around.

I'm not trying to be nasty or rude but, if you're after "realism" is this the right game for you ? I've played many games over my life, quite a few sounded great but once I played them for a reasonable length of time I found they just weren't for me, the same goes for everybody I'd say. Many aspects of this game frustrate me frequently, but I still enjoy purely designing tracks and seeing if I can get them to NOT have any red stats.  :)

And I was on holiday. Also, 8 days isn’t a lot on these forums, it usually takes longer.

Wait, what ?!?!?! ..... How dare you take a break from .... anything. You know that's not how society works these days. You're here for ME, and me alone, nothing else matters.

I do hope you realise I'm joking, I honestly despise the whole me, me, me attitude these days, and try my hardest not to do anything that could be misinterpreted that way.

  5. This has been covered quite a while ago. I raised it and was told that currently the "zero g roll" elements couldn't be saved in track designs. It's also been covered by Marcel Vos in one of his more recent videos. A simple search for other posts with "can't or cannot or unable to - save design" would've probably pointed you to any relevant posts.

It's unfortunate, but this will no doubt change in the future, we all just need patience OR be able and willing to help the project. I myself would love to help, but I know next to nothing about codeing, beyond Basic and 8-bit machine code.

  6. I enjoy his videos and like his break-downs of various attributes and quirks of the game.  :) The latest of his videos I've watched was about the "level crossings" for the miniature railways. I already knew about this, but it was good to see his additional idiosyncrasies' that he had come across. It was also good to see that @Gymnasiast corrected his assumption of how long this had been in the game.  :)

Marcel Vos is obviously as passionate about the game as most here. We are all here with a variety of "takes" on the game. I personally,  am more about the design of rides than the aesthetics' of park design and layout, that is to say, how pretty people can make it.  :)

People have made some great looking landscapes and parks, but that's not the stuff that interests me, sure I sometimes put in bits and pieces of scenery after I've put in whatever coasters and rides I want, but that's all secondary. My guess would be that some would look at my parks and think they were very bland and uninteresting, and that's fine, all "should" be welcome to have their own opinions.

Enough rambling, it's Saturday night here in Melbourne, Australia. And for me, it's getting to bedtime.  :)  (Older people need sleep)

  7. For the past couple of updates regardless whether I have all objects selected or just whatever apply for a particular scenario, the items window hasn't had a tab for the trees, small trees, or path items (that is benches, bins, lamps, signs etc).

They all get dumped into the question mark tab.

OpenRCT2, v0.4.1-311-g36904cf (36904cf on develop) provided by GitHub

As an aside, how hard or easy would it be for a person who has no idea or experience with making scenery groups, to organise individual items into specific groups ?

Just to be clear, I am aware these issues are pretty minor, and simply "quality of life" things, but they do make it harder to find things.

As does the sorting of entrances pull-down in the ride window (I don't have a screenshot for that), that switches from alphabetic to "default" (plain at the top) frequently.

  8. She is also back with her husband now too. She lived a full life, many ups and downs. As far as I know, the UK hasn't had a true monarchy for quite a long time, kings and queens don't "rule" there anymore. She did the job she was there for, and I believe she did it well. She well deserves her rest.

  9. I know some will claim this isn't the sort of thing for these forums, but, you're welcome to your opinion.

Empathy for royalists, Brits, and any Commonwealth Country members in here. She has been a significant part of the world for quite a long time, and won't quickly be forgotten.

Feel free to remove this post if it's deemed unsuitable.

You can check by clicking "advanced" on the object selection, then you can see how many objects of each type you have selected and what the limit is.

I do use the "advanced" button, but generally after selecting everything, since individually clicking ~2k items can be painful for my fingers, so it's reduced by selecting all the groups first then the individual items remaining. With what custom content I have, I can't come close to the current item limits.

  11. The message is self-explanatory, but I'm wondering why these groups wouldn't be complete as groups. All those in the image plus the one that generated the message, are obviously custom content, but incomplete sets ?

I'm unsure how to remedy this, as I don't like seeing error messages. 😕

  12. As for land size, I like doing large land areas too. But I've found that over a certain size I frequently get "Guests are getting lost or stuck". I think I've seen something somewhere that said about if it takes a peep 10 mins or more to get where they want to go, they get confused and do the "I can't find ???". This happened for me even before the increase in land sizes. Almost always, my pathing is straight forward, and queue lines are on main paths without peeps having to use another path to get to the queue.

Well, that's what I find anyway.

It appears that a park size of over 200x200-ish tiles gets peeps confused. ...... Stupid peeps can't even read a park map, or use a transport ride properly.  :)

Regarding the screenshot thing: OpenRCT2’s built-in screenshot tool should work for error messages. The default shortcut for it is CTRL + S.

Hmm .... I'll give that a try. I usually only use the mouse.

Yes you have, you used the large zero G roll. Replace the roll with a standard flat to steep piece and you should be able to save it.

Oh, ok ... As far as I know I didn't download any custom pieces, wasn't that just part of that coaster's addition ?

Just saw Marcel Vos's latest video about the Hybrid and Single Rail. It advises about this incident, so thanks @X7123M3-256 for your effort with these two coasters.  :)

It'll be great when the new elements can allow tracks to be saved too.  :)

  14. The error message whilst trying to save a ride design. To my knowledge all the elements were included with that coaster when it was added to OpenRCT2, I haven't added any custom elements.

Sorry for the video, but I haven't been able to do screenshots that will include an error message, the message goes away as soon as you click on anything. (It's always been like that, I know).
