Deurklink Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 (edited) Edit: click here to go to the post with the finished park: https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/2715-space-base-on-an-unnamed-planet/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-17965 Because The great circle is sort of finished, i decided it's time to start a new project! I found out that i really liked to build space-themed buildings, so i decided to make a space themed attraction park. Again, i made a simple height map, this time with a big circular area and some craters. My plan is to only fill the big circular area (Although some rides will probably extend a bit outside it . I know myself). I'm planning to make lots of buildings, connected to one another by covered bridges. As a restriction, all areas where people can walk will have to be covered. I won't fully cover rides as that will probably look crap This is the building peeps enter when they enter the park: First update will follow soon! Edited January 28, 2018 by Deurklink 4
jensj12 Posted November 11, 2017 Posted November 11, 2017 Wouldn't "The great circle with smaller circles" be a better name? 4

Deurklink Posted November 12, 2017 Author Posted November 12, 2017 Alright, time for an update! One thing i noticed is that it's difficult to show off everything when you make buildings around everything I will try anyway. Overview: This is the kind of look i am going for in my park. Maybe i'll make some areas with differently colored glass. I'll probably also make a suspended monorail traveling through the park (Or maybe a normal monorail with streamlined trains). First i made a small food court, where people can buy delicious tentacles. Even in space people need to eat This building houses space elevator, a double deck observation tower. A hover car ride named Regolith Racers drives around between the buildings. I'll probably make a few more of these throughout the park. This one will probably also be extended a bit as i make more buildings. And last but not least, there is a Reverse Freefall coaster named Particle Accelerator (which can also be seen in the other screenshots). Here's a view with scenery turned off: I like how it connects to the bridges between the buildings. Here's a save, for people who want to see the details: Space Base 01.sv6 New update will follow soon! (Probably tomorrow) 2

What is your plan with coasters? Surely there's only few trains that are enclosed, or before riding they wear plane emergency style breath helper ? 1

Guess they'll just have to hold their breath for a while 1
Leudimin Posted November 12, 2017 Posted November 12, 2017 Great start. However seeing there's a hover car ride makes me wonder why the reverse freefall coaster is a regular (vanilla) one instead of a jet pack booster, which was included in the same expansion pack (Time Twister). 1

I have considered the jet pack booster but i prefer the normal cars. They look a lot better in my opinion and also fit really well in the space theme. 1
HookerHeels Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 This looks awesome. I love the idea of having the 'must be covered' restriction. Looking forward to seeing this 1
Deurklink Posted November 13, 2017 Author Posted November 13, 2017 (edited) Time for a new update! Overview: Firstly, i made a transport ride around the park. I decided to go with the streamlined monorail trains as they fit best in the space theme. I will make it move around and between (and maybe through) the buildings that i place, to give it that busy look. I will probably give it a nicer station building later. After that i decided to start work on a roller coaster. I tried out a few things and decided to try and build a very compact looping coaster. I completely enclosed it inside a building, and I am quite happy with the result. Here's the inside view: And finally, I wanted to find a good way to use one of the craters. That's why i decided to build a space ship containing two 3D cinemas It's not the sleekest design, and I am not really happy about the top part, so I'll probably end up modifying it. It was fun to make though. Edited November 13, 2017 by Deurklink 3
YoloSweggLord Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 These building designs look great. I agree that the spaceship needs a bit of tweaking, though. Perhaps you could use trackitecture to give it a smoother profile? 2

Perhaps you could use trackitecture to give it a smoother profile? I was gonna recommend the same thing about the trackitecture. Monorail track stacked on top of itself would work really well. Also, if you wanted to not have to enclose all the rides, you could pretend that there is a dome over the entire large crater. You could even build the bottom portion where its anchored into the ground and extend it up a bit (not all the way of course). Something like this H2H7 park from NE comes to mind: https://www.nedesigns.com/park/3324/h2h7-r1-circus-circus-adventuredome-atlantic-city/ Edited November 14, 2017 by saxman1089 2
Deurklink Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 It's been a few days, but here's a new update! Overview: I expended a bit to the sides, and added some rollercoasters. I played a bit more with the craters but didn't manage to make something that looked good, so for now i will just build around them. So on one end of the park we have two new attractions: A 3D cinema called Radar Dome (the one thing i copied from the space ship ). Next to that is a shuttle coaster called Graviton (Inspired by the one from Crumbly Woods). Riders are exposed to the outside world for part of the ride, but i think it looks pretty cool. And here's an inside view: On the other end of the park, i built a reverse-incline launched junior roller coaster named Time Twister. I also built a new food court next to it. I will probably make some fake bridges to the top level of the food court. And the inside view: I am still not sure what to do with the craters, but so far this is the idea that i like best: Here's the save, for the people who are interested: Space Base 03.sv6 1
Deurklink Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 So, to make up for the lack of updates in the last week, here's another one Overview: I decided to go for the more natural looking green water in the craters. Also, i expanded the park a bit in all directions. I modified the monorail to have a longer path in between the buildings and gave it a longer station. First off, i built an air-launched rollercoaster named Escape Velocity, which partially goes underground. I may build more buildings over the underground part, but for now i'll keep it this way. I also built a Top Spin called Warp Drive in the building next to it. Inside view: Next, i made an attraction with boats that float on a rare and exotic form of ice that is completely liquid. Inside view (from another angle): It also seems some sharp beaked alien lifeforms have decided to take refuge in the crater next to it. And finally, i built a suspended swinging rollercoaster using old-fashioned rocket trains, which partially runs outside the building. I never build any of these, but i think this one actually looks pretty good. And the inside view: Here's the save, for people who want to take a look: Space Base 04.sv6 3
Deurklink Posted November 23, 2017 Author Posted November 23, 2017 A pretty big expansion this time! I have decided to divide the park into four quarters, each with their own color. That is assuming i do not hit a limit before the park is filled. I have now added a yellow colored part to the park. Also, it looks like the guests don't like to choose between eating tentacles or tentacles (worst food award). I added a new food court, where guests can enjoy a big variety of tentacles. They can also buy space suits here (white shirts). Besides that, i built an enterprise and a roto-drop in some buildings nearby. Inside view: They're getting quite crowded so i should probably build some extra covered paths between the buildings. I built an extra station for the monorail: And finally, i built another rollercoaster named Whizzer (like its earth counterparts ), which extends over 3 buildings. Inside view: Here's the save, for the people who would like to view everything up closer: Space Base 05.sv6 2

Wuis Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 The yellow + red + green (water) isn't really a good colour combo. I think you should use a different path and use the in-game or selfmade supports. For a different area it just doesn't look different enough. I like the start of the park though. 1

Yea i'm still looking for a better color combo.. I have already repainted those windows three times Not sure if i will change the building style too much in the different areas. EDIT: I'm already a lot happier with this: It contrasts nicely with the red and orange, and looks much better than yellow. Edited November 24, 2017 by Deurklink 1
Wuis Posted November 24, 2017 Posted November 24, 2017 That indeed makes it a lot better! Maybe make it like that there are different civilizations who all compete for this new planet, the different area shows each nation. Then you could come up with a civilization who builds rather weird structures like the CCTV Headquarters in Bejing , Museum of Contemporary Art in Rio de Janeiro, Rotating Tower in Dubai and Habitat 67 in Montreal. Or have like allied nations who have similar styles and like some sort of rebels who have besides some main buildings very bare buildings. 2

saxman1089 Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Everything looks great.... except that green water. Just get rid of it altogether and leave the craters empty. You're always going to have something clashing with that water. 1
Deurklink Posted December 9, 2017 Author Posted December 9, 2017 New update! I have been working on a central plaza, and added some buildings around it. I also have started on a new quarter of the park, which will be colored blue. The buildings will also look slightly different from the rest of the park. Overview (The uncovered paths between buildings are temporary): First off, the plaza building. I decided to keep the roof open in the middle area. It's filled with shops and areas for the guests to sit. Inside view: Next up is a LIM launched roller coaster named Blastoff. I like making launched roller coasters that stay close to the ground and move at high speeds through curvy tracks. Inside view: I have been playing a bit with building styles for the blue area. I decided to go with curved edges for the buildings here. It gives them a slightly different look than the other buildings in the park, while keeping the same general style. Finally, i made a roller coaster which was built out of an exotic material called 'wood'. Not much is know about this strange material, but apparently it can be used to build roller coasters. This roller coaster is called Centrifuge. At its highest level, it peeks out of the building for a brief moment. After that, it follows a spiralling track, hence the name. I also built a monorail station in the same building. Here's the save, for the people who want to take a better look at the roller coasters: Space Base 06.sv6 Next update i will probably be filling up the blue area. 2
saxman1089 Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Haha that mural on the side of the wood coaster looks like a space invader. Nice job! 1
Deurklink Posted December 22, 2017 Author Posted December 22, 2017 Small update today (but a really cool one I think!): First, i built a building with a flight deck. Then, i created an invisible mini roller coaster which takes guests high up into the air, circling around all the tallest attractions. Whenever the ride is running, there are now always many tiny rocket vehicles zooming around the park Maybe I'll make another one later with a different vehicle type. That was it for today! Here's the save, for people who want to see the rockets in action: Space Base 08.sv6 1
