  1. You are NEVER to old to play RCT and OpenRCT2 makes it even better. Welcome aboard! You will find lots of interesting things and don't be afraid to ask a question - someone almost always has an answer but check first someone may have already asked that question.

  2. I have observed that sometimes some of us are a little to critical to those who are new to OpenRCT2 and have a problem. Just remember when you first came into contact with OpenRCT2, were an expert right off the bat or did you have questions and difficulty getting started and had that deer in headlights look!

Remember a good troubleshooter tries and get as much information as possible on the issue BEFORE providing a solution. A wrong answer may be one which may lead the person you are trying to help astray and confuse them more. You may be very computer savy but the other person may not be and there are many things that differ from the vanilla game we have played (some of us from the original RCT game.

How many of you know that Diamond Heights was originally a demo to see how the game would take. That is how I got hooked - that and having a passion for riding rollercoasters (my first at 7 yo in1955).

Try and keep thing simple and EXPLAIN what is wrong and HOW and WHAT STEPS to take to solve their issue.

Thus ended the lesson weed hopper.

  3. @newton27  is correct. The very first and only the first time you run RCT2 the screen will say "Opening RCT2 for the first time" this sets all the folders and opens/places the scenarios and dats in the correct folders. When that is completed - open one of the loaded scenarios to make sure the game loads properly. Close RCT2 and try to OpenRCT2 it will read the ObjData folder and populate the Scenario folder. You should have success and OpenRCT2 should start (Sometimes it takes a few minutes - be patient).

  4. This is going to sound weird. If I am using the stable version and switch to the dev version I get the following msg

    INFO [src\object.list c:425(object.list.cache version different)....updating

The screen switches to the white box but NEVER loads (I waited 15 minutes) eventually I have to use the task mgr to halt the program.

It spits out the dmp file.

Now the weird part. To go back to the stable version I get this msg:

    INFO [src\object_list. c:402(object_list_cache_load)]: 1394601711 object removed . . updating object list cache

The screen switches and proceeds to the main screen.

I have been having trouble getting winzip to work lately, would someone pass this along to GitHub for me please.

This all happened after I downloaded Raffles Beach Trolley Park from here. I have since deleted the download file and the objdata file containing those dats (I always make an ObjData copy before downloading something new) and returned to my original copy.

  5. This procedure works for ANY ride with multiple train (NOT coasters that are blocked though).

@jensj12 The solution for your racers is almost the same principal.

Let's say you have 4 trains and 2 side-by-side stations.

1 - Follow the same procedures as above but divide the time by 2 not 4.

2 - Let the first 2 trains start, but before the first train reaches the second station, check the box for synchronizing stations.

3 - The third train will wait for the first train to reach station 2, then 1 & 3 will start together.

  6. A solution:

1 - Open ride in the test mode - that will separate the trains

2 - After train has made a complete circuit look and see what the total time is for one full revolution.

3 - Divide that total time by the number of trains you have running (you don't always need the max number of trains running to be semi-realistic)

4 - Set the minimum time to that figure and also set check "Leave if another train enters the station." and leave/uncheck Max time.

5 - Close the ride and select the construction button (This will stop the trains from running otherwise the trains won't stop)

6 - Start the ride in the test mode again and run until the first train has returned to station 1. (Your trains should be spread out semi-evenly)

7 - Open the ride so your riders can ride.

NOTE: Sometimes you have to play with #4 timer a little.

Spreading out the stations so they are approx the same distance apart will help.

  7. @YoloSweggLord I'm guessing your grandfather isn't head of NADDI

You are correct - I was a rear seat weapons specialist on a F-4 Phantom Wild Weasel in Vietnam in 1969 and my father took me to Riverview Park in Chicago (120miles away) for my first coaster ride when I was 6. And the Cyclone is one of the best wooden coasters, an awesome ride.

  8. Sorry to see you go but you have to do what you have to do. Sometimes those decisions like this are very hard to make. Your helpfulness has been much appreciated. We'll look forward to your return. May your new ventures become successful ones.

Godspeed my friend, you will be missed!

If it's a paint setup bug easiest way to test is load the map on 0.0.4 as we only implemented scenery paint setup recently

Good call, changed to stable version. Here is the result. Should I report this on Github?

  10. SCR12.pngOK here is the poop. New copy of RCT2 loading three additional dats AWWC.dat, TTFALLSC.dat & WWMKY.dat below.

Added them to Over the Falls and you can see the results. Now something interesting, notice the one that is above the water - it sits on a tile which is partly above and partly below water. Otherwise that are all below the water on top of the base tile. Also rotating the 2 partial 1/4 tiles does move them around but keeps them on the same southwest quarter of the tile.

  11. I am going to try something.

    1. I am going to rename my existing RCT2 main file and make a copy of the entire virgin file I have with the original 2,122 dats and scenarios.

    2. Upload the saved game so that it is the only scenario besides the originals.

    3. Run the scenario on both RCT2 and OpenRCT2 and see what happens. That will take out any stray or errant dats.

I will let you know what happens.

  12. First I get the same message "ERROR[src\object_list.c:794 (install_object_entry)]: Incorrect number of vanilla RCT2 objects." if and only if I have SBOX,dat  loaded in my objdata file.

ZLOG.dat is not a member of that scenario but it is in the ojbdata file

I have enclosed two pics, first one is from the game on RCT2 the second is from OpenRCT2.

When I created this park SBOX was NOT in the objdata file. I removed it because I didn't like it and wasn't going to use it. I don't know if that is the root of this problem or not and I am not sure how to correct it with OpenRCT2. I have tried to load the original objdata file from a virgin file set that I keep (2122 files) and add it to my current file set and tell it to replace the current with the originals. Begin the game (RCT2) and it will not load after it counts the dat changes. Remove SBOX and everything is OK. Begin OpenRCT2 with SBOX included and I get "ERROR[src\object_list.c:797 (install_object_entry)]: Incorrect number of vanilla RCT2 objects." I am confused!

I used my DatChecker program and found SBOX had ID 276c93b5 2538e5ed f5508976 823f74c9.

I have 7 scenarios that use the same white water 1/4 tile, on some the tiles appear underwater, some are misplaced on land and some don't appear at all. Now let me say this IF SBOX.dat is in the objdata file OpenRCT2 either give me dmp files or else terminates (Windows 10 style). I am an old electronics and computer tech (I programmed in basic, visual basic and linux) and have never been stumped like this.

    OpenRCT2.png

  13. SCR10.pngUsing OpenRCT2 I lowered the water level and changed the land color and it shows the quarter tiles intact. Try this saved copy, I saved it using OpenRCT2.

I don't know if this is pertinent or not but when OpenRCT2 started I got an err message "Potential mismatch in file numbers, possible corrupt file. Consider deleting plugin.dat. I have no 'plugin.dat'

In order to view your ongoing park build I was forced to reload some rides that I had removed. SBOX in particular causes my RCT2 to not load at all when added back to the object file. If I open RCT2 with just the original 2122 dats - no problem, but add those original dats to my current object file (minus duplicated) and RCT2 won't load. Is there a potential that another dat has the same ID as the original SBOX?

  14. I have decided to finish one of the parks I started on several years back using RCT2. However when I loaded the park into OpenRCT2 I noticed missing dats. Pic 1 shows the park in RCT2 and pic 2 the same park in OpenRCT2. Notice that almost half of the whitewater tiles I used as shore waves are missing. In addition if I try and add the whitewater tile, it wants to place supports under them. I also noticed that the dat only appears in what I would call the southwest quadrant of the tile and can't be rotated.

I have included a copy the the park.

    I am open to suggestions.
