Help and tips for a noobie like myself?

Recommended Posts

Hello there friends, Im new to OpenRCT2. I currently have RCT Deluxe, RCT Classic, and RCT 3, I read that an update last year made it to where you can use OpenRCT2 with RCT Classic, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how the heck to get that to work and I feel incredibly stupid because I am pretty tech and PC savvy, but I just cant lol. Are there any how to videos showing how to use OpenRCT2? Also since I couldnt figure out how to get it to work with classic I am just playing OpenRCT2 by itsself, and I am noticing that virtually every ride I try to buildd (the pre built rides) It says in red letters under the ride "This ride is missing scenery) and every ride just looks like a core ride with no scenery, so where is all of the scenery for my rides? For example splash mine, usually has all of the wood and congo related scenery, but all of the scenery on the ride is missing, it just looks like a base log flume ride. I can post a screenshot of what I am talking about once I get home from work and in front of my computer. Oh well. If anyone can offer me some pointers or tips or how to videos I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for your time and have a great day!

I don't understand what you mean. OpenRCT2 requires the base game assets to play - if you are able to play it then you have it set up correctly. It searches common install paths so it will often locate the base game automatically. If you have both RCT2 and RCT Classic installed, I don't think it makes any difference which you are using.

Rides can only be built with the included scenery if all scenery pieces are available (excluding paths). This means the scenario needs to have them enabled and you must have researched it. As the rides were made for RCT2, you might have more luck finding one with available scenery in RCT2 scenarios.

We too have RCT Classic. If you're following the steps to extract the files from Steam (I followed the Mac tutorial for extracting RCT2 files), type this command into the Steam console:

download_depot 683900 683901

instead of "download_depot 285330 285331". Then point to this download when you first lauch OpenRCT2, or find the OpenRCT2 config file and change the path to point to the 683901 download.
