Playing on LAN

Me and a friend want to the play the game on the same network (LAN game) How would get I get this to work and is possible? Would I still have portforward? Thanks

Host a server on 1 machine and make sure you get the local IP (INTERNAL IP). And type in the IP address of that machine on the other machine by clicking the 'Add server' button.

Ahh okay. But my friend can't join for some reason. The game crashes on his machine when downloading the map, (goes into Not responding mode)

Make sure you're both using the same version.
