grscott8 Posted December 8 Posted December 8 (edited) I followed the steps in this 2022 YouTube video to install the game on Mac, and it requires buying the game on GoG. I did, but they now have an updated version split into two files (see attached screenshot). Does anyone who used this method still have the original file named: setup_rollercoaster_tycoon_2_triple_thrill_pack_2.01.043(17987).exe and could share it via Drive? Thanks a lot! Gymnasiast Posted December 8 Posted December 8 (edited) It still works, you just need to download both files and feed the .exe to Extractor or innoextract. We have also documented this, updated for the recent change: https://docs.openrct2.io/en/latest/installing/installing-on-macos.html Edited December 8 by Gymnasiast
grscott8 Posted December 8 Author Posted December 8 (edited) Thanks! But it does not say what to do with the .bin file. Extractor prevents me from selecting it, it doesn't unzip, and OpenRCT2 can't find the right path even after putting the .bin in the "app" folder. All the folders extracted from the .exe are empty, like their contents is in the .bin. Edited December 8 by grscott8
AM7655 Posted December 9 Posted December 9 I think Extractor takes exe and then uses that to 'unzip' bin. The RollerCoaser Tycoon 2 folder you have selected is the unpackaged version. Click through folders like Scenario or ObjData they should have files in them. That would give you a hint that everything has been extracted and you can then proceed with OperRCT2.
grscott8 Posted December 9 Author Posted December 9 I extracted the .exe with Extractor, and it created all of these folders, which are all empty. What should I do with the .bin? Extractor can't open it
AM7655 Posted December 9 Posted December 9 (edited) @grscott8you might be having the same problem I ran into last night with innoextract. Rename your setup files to rollercoaster_tycoon_2_triple_thrill_pack.exe and rollercoaster_tycoon_2_triple_thrill_pack-1.bin You can't see it here, but when installing with innoextract the terminal throws 2 errors. First, it can't locate the files at all and then it can't locate the bin extracting only the folder structure like you have it. The reason for this is that most likely the setup files from gog were batch renamed for use with their galaxy installer. It's possible that the extractor/terminal might not understand the extra dots in the file version or the whole naming convention. Test this out and let me know. I think you'll be aright! grscott8 Posted December 9 Author Posted December 9 It woooooorked, thanks!!! Someone might want to add the file renaming step to the guide! https://docs.openrct2.io/en/latest/installing/installing-on-macos.html 1
AM7655 Posted December 9 Posted December 9 (edited) @Gymnasiasttagging you here brother. gog files require renaming. RCT2: rollercoaster_tycoon_2_triple_thrill_pack.exe and rollercoaster_tycoon_2_triple_thrill_pack-1.bin RCT1: rollercoaster_tycoon_deluxe.exe and rollercoaster_tycoon_deluxe-1.bin I don't think it really matters as long as the extra dots in the file version are removed. 2.01.043(17987) Edited December 9 by AM7655
