RCT2 Vanilla won't work under Windows 8.1

Hello, I am trying to help my friend on Steam out, he is trying to run the vanilla version of RCT2 under Windows 8.1 and the OS is struggling with the game. I told him to run under compatibility mode and when he has compatibility mode on under Windows XP SP3, it takes him to Windows Features. How can I fix this issue for my friend running Windows 8.1?

Try running it in XP SP2 mode. RCT2 didn't run well with SP3.

Upgrade to Windows 10 and you won't have any problems. He should get a free upgrade! Windows  8 and 8.1 both suck for playing any RCT version.
