Help installing with steam version on windows 8

I own RCT Deluxe on steam, and I cant seem to get it to work. I've tried using a shortcut to openRCT2, but steam just throws an error. I've tried replacing the RCT.exe with openRCT2 and steam just "fixes" it by going back to the original when I launch the game. When I try to launch openRCT2 directly, after selecting the RCT deluxe directory in the steam folders, it gives me "could not find \Data\g1.dat at this path"

 

any help would be greatly appreciated

You need RCT2 to play OpenRCT2. (RCT Deluxe is RCT1)
