Banner for website

Recommended Posts

Hi folks!

I want to replace the RCT2 screenshot on the website ( https://openrct2.org/ ) with something more interesting.

I'm considering a looping muted video featuring the main changes compared to RCT2. Thoughts on that? Or do you guys have a better ideas?

Yay! xD

I'm totally up for that idea, but I'm worried it might not work as intended on mobile browsers.

If all is fine, here's some ideas on what I'd wanna see in the video:

  • Night Time (of course :D)
  • Track Merging
  • A tracked Attraction with a different vehicle type (Swans + Car Ride?)
  • Well-Used Zero Clearance (like the Trams going over Paths)

A moving video might be too distracting. It works for openrct.website because there's not much to read, but for this website with its current template I don't think it will work.

Having still images in a carousal will probably work better. Something like what NEDesigns used to have at during 2008-2013 (Example: https://web.archive.org/web/20110207194744/http://www.nedesigns.com/)

there's no "www" in "openrct2.website", though…

@JarnoVgr what do you have in mind: something showing UI or just the in-game content, like the video in background of openrct2.website? In latter case there's not much that you can easily tell is openrct2-only and even when you can, it takes to know the feature beforehand to tell it, while in former it may feel cluttered.

I agree with this.

Maybe have a banner competition?
