  1. These parks were made mostly with original rct2 "vanilla", using mostly pre-made coasters (but do contain some original coasters too). They are my time lapsed (no cheats except in later development) (mostly vanilla) completions of the first three parks listed here. The coasters were created in openrct2 but with limited object selection.

Crazy Castle By Josh Marsilio 4.18.park

  2. i've played rct2 for about 20-30 months now and openrct2 for 8-12 months or so...    i acquired the computer that i have now only 2-3 years ago and i was computer-less for the 4 years prior to that.  So yes, i have, but i found my copy of rct2 at a thrift store in 2014 and didn't even know the game existed until then. I am relatively new to the game, but i have spent dozens of hours on 3 particular scenarios ((bumbly bazarre, crazy castle, and extreme heights), (which i completed using mostly pre-made rides)) I have built a few custom coasters else-ware. Several were in servers and i did not save.

  3. Hello. I have encountered a problem in at least one of my parks but not all of them:  In one particular park which was originally a server-park, which i then saved to my computer; i am unable to take a screenshot. When i do it says in black letters in a small red bar "screenshot failed!".  Does anyone know why this is happening or how i might fix this?

    • I think i found the answer for myself. I found the option in "options" at the initial start of the launcher.  "Enable unlocking of scenario's" has to be "unchecked" in order to have all scenarios automatically unlocked. A bit confusing, but it seemed to work. Thanks anyway.

  4. Sometimes when i start openrct2 i get a message "object files out of date" "updating 2100 objects"(or whatever the number may be), but the number of object files in any of my rct2 folders doesn't seem to be increasing, especially not by 100's or thousands of objects. i only have 821 object files in rct2 folder and 1523 in openrct2 folder. Why aren't my object files increasing? where are these files going?

  5. Hi there. I am only an "apprentice" on this website, but i can tell you that i too had some problems when i first installed open rct2 to my computer. I am currently running windows vista 32-bit on a laptop with original rct2openrct2, and openrct2 launcher installed. I now exclusively use the launcher when i want to play openrct2. Running the launcher is similar to running plain openrct2, but the launcher will update itself to the fullest/most current version of openrct2 automatically about once or twice a day (right after you've opened it), so you will often see it download a new version of itself right after you've launched the launcher. This is convenient because you will always have the latest, fullest version of openrct2 installed to your computer. The only downside of using the launcher is that it doesn't open right away if you are "offline", (it takes about 30 seconds to open if you are "offline")

Downloading and installing the newest launcher of openrct2 and plain openrct2 may add some necessary files to your openrct2 folder(s) which should install, or be installed to your c:\users\"self(yourname)"\documents\openrct2 folder, and also to C:\Program Files\OpenRCT2\.   For some reason this is the way openrct2 installs, it adds a folder at 1.- c:\Program Files\openrct2 or (\openrct2launcher), and also a folder at 2.- c:\users\"self(yourname)"\documents\openrct2. I do believe you need both of these folders plus 3.- original roller coaster tycoon at c:\program files\infogrames interactive\rollercoaster tycoon2\   intact for openrct2 to work. So if you don't have these three folders you may have a problem. If you don't have a "users" folder on your computer\desktop, and if you are not the computer's "administrator", this may also cause a problem.

This being said, i do believe you would have the best luck installing the launcher because it seems to contain more files than the regular open roller coaster tycoon 2 installer.  The launcher can be found at https://github.com/LRFLEW/OpenRCT2Launcher/releases/tag/v0.0.5 (or through the downloads [email protected]) and for a windows computer you simply need to install: https://github.com/LRFLEW/OpenRCT2Launcher/releases/download/v0.0.5/OpenRCT2Launcher-win.exe.

The G1.dat file should only be in your original rct2 folder in: C(or whatever your drive name is):\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\RollerCoaster Tycoon 2\Data. There is no "G1.dat" in any of the openrct2 folders, only a "G2.dat" which is in C:\Program Files\OpenRCT2\data and at C:\Users\"you"\Documents\OpenRCT2\bin\data. I wouldn't try copying and pasting files and folders here and there to get openrct2 to work, this shouldn't be necessary, and if it is than you've probably installed or done something wrong.

By the way, openrct2 isn't using your original rct2.exe to launch openrct2.   To launch openrct2, you are using the openrct2.exe file from either C:\ProgramFiles\OpenRCT2\ (regular version) or C:\Program Files\OpenRCT2Launcher\ (launcher version), but having original rct2 installed is currently necessary for openrct2 to work. Create a shortcut of the openrct.exe (preferably from the launcher folder c:\programfiles\OpenRCT2Launcher) and place it on your desktop (if the install has not already done this for you). This will be what you click on to play openrct2.

Also; don't be afraid to completely uninstall and then reinstall all versions of rollercoaster tycoon2 (including openrct2) to get openrct2 to work. Doing this may help to fix your problem.

For further advice on running open roller coaster tycoon 2 regarding windows updating, visual c++, etc., you can read my response to user "alflav" at https://openrct2.org/forums/topic/1447-crash-on-launch/

I do realize that you are using a 64-bit windows 10 computer (which i am not familiar with) and my advice may be completely useless and irrelevant, but these are things that have helped me to run openrct2 on my windows vista 32-bit computer.

    Good Luck.

  6. Hi alflav. I had problems with c++ and assertion failures for a few days right after i reinstalled windows vista to my computer and couldn't run openrct2. The way i finally fixed this was:

    1. I made sure I installed necessary windows updates including .net framework, service pack 2, and msxml which i think are needed to run openrct2. These programs may be included in newer operating systems such as windows 7, 8, and 10 and therefore do not need to be downloaded from microsoft.com. However this software is not included in older versions of windows such as "windows vista"  and "windows xp" and do need to be downloaded and added to windows either manually, or by automatically updating windows for open roller coaster tycoon to to function on your computer.

    2.  But most importantly and what i think was actually causing the assertion failure in my case was the fact that i had more than one version of microsoft visual c++ installed on my computer.    Go to "control panel"; then go to "programs and features". Look to see if there is more than one version of microsoft visual c++ installed and listed. If there is, then click on, and uninstall all other versions except the newest relevant version which is (x86) for 32-bit operating system or (x64) for 64-bit operating systems.  So you want to see in your programs and features list, only 1: "microsoft visual c++ 2015 redistributable [(x64) or (x86)] - 14.0.23026" for example.

Microsoft visual c++ can be installed directly from microsoft by going to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows.aspx and searching for c++ or visual c++.   All compatible versions of visual c++ can be installed or uninstalled to your computer as needed without causing harm.

note:  having 2 or 3 same-named versions of other software or updates in "programs and features" is sometimes a good thing. So don't go erasing all other duplicate updates or programs. For example, I have 3 "msxml 4.0 sp2" updates which are slightly different from each other and seem to be necessary, so i will keep all 3.

  7. 3 versions ago i could, but with today's release of openrct2 i am having trouble either saving or loading custom coaster designs. The game is saying "can't construct  this here" after i save a design and only the white "base squares" on  the ground are showing, not the entire ride when i drag or move the ride.

  8. I find that i can't do anything or can only do very little in 95% of all servers, while the people with privliges are making a giant mess! Something should be done to allow and disallow users based on skill, or just make it free for everyone so the more experienced players can just scrap the junk. Of course this will only be effective if the actual game is functioning properly and not getting clusters of guests stuck in one place etc...

  9. I have never been able to start my own room/server. My internet is xfinity hotspot, which i log into through a web browser, i have no modem or router of my own, and i am probably "piggybacking" off of someone else's equiptment which i have no access to. I have tried turning my firewall off completely and making up random 5 digit numbers for a port, but these things do not work. Is it even possible for me to host my own server while using this "hot spot" internet??? By the way i have read about "opening ports" and i either don't understand how to do this or i need access to my router which i have non of.
